L’Association Tunisienne d’Anthropologie est une association scientifique. Elle a pour but de faire connaître la science anthropologique en organisant des activités scientifiques et culturelles (des conférences, des séminaires, des congrès à l'échelle nationale ou internationale et des voyages d'étude). Son siège social est à la Faculté de Pharmacie de Monastir.

Présentation des différentes spécialités de l'anthropologie |
La science anthropologique groupe plusieurs spécialités ayant comme ambition l'étude et la compréhension de l'humain dans toutes ses dimensions. Malgré leurs différences, ces spécialités offrent à l'anthropologie une perspective d'ensemble qui s'articule autour de deux axes principaux. Le premier axe est celui du lien qui rattache le présent au passé. Le deuxième axe est celui de l'interrelation entre la biologie et la culture. En combinant l'un et l'autre des pôles de ces deux axes, on obtient les quatre grandes spécialités de l'anthropologie. Deux spécialités permettent l'étude de l'homme dans le passé. L'une étudie ce qu'il a laissé comme produit culturel, c'est l'archéologie préhistorique et l'autre étudie ses caractéristiques biologiques à partir de l'analyse de ses restes fossiles, c'est la paléoanthropologie. Deux autres spécialités permettent l'étude de l'homme dans le présent, selon l'angle socioculturel c'est l'anthropologie culturelle ou selon l'angle biologique, c'est l'anthropologie biologique.
Les données des différentes spécialités de l'anthropologie pourront se converger, se diverger ou se compléter. La grande synthèse entre ces données est devenue une nécessité pour une meilleure recherche dans le domaine de l'anthropologie. Ainsi, la science anthropologique doit être synthétique en même temps qu'analytique parce qu'elle étudie l'homme dans sa totalité.
