Yousef Kanjou has currently held the position of Researcher at the Institute for Ancient Near Eastern Studies, the University of Tübingen (Germany) since 2016. He is the co-author of A History of Syria in One Hundred Sites (2016) and he was Director of the Aleppo National Museum (Syria) until 2013. He also was a lecturer in the Archaeology department of Aleppo University. In 2008, 2010, and 2013-2016, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Tokyo and the University of Tsukuba, Japan. Since 2003, he has co-directed several international joint missions at Tell Qaramel and Dederiyeh Cave. In addition, he led several emergency excavations in the Aleppo region, as in Tell Pajer and Nabekah. After the war began in Syrian, his main interest is how to save the Syrian heritage for the next generation, beside his research about the prehistory of Syria. Also, he wrote articles in various international journals like The Role of the Local Community and Museums in the Renaissance of Syrian Cultural Heritage (2018). Since 2018, He is working on the project titled: Preservation of the Archaeological Cultural Heritage in Aleppo and its Hinterland.
